Hey'Ya: Arab Sportswomen Celebrated by Renowned Photographer > @QatarMuseumAut @Sothebys

Brigitte Lacombe: Hey’Ya

Striking portraits of Arab women in sports were captured by photographer Brigitte Lacombe. Qatari swimmers, Omani tennis players, Saudi Arabian basketball players, Lebanese fencers, and Moroccan runners, are some of those inspirational women whom Brigitte Lacombe was able to capture when herself and her sister, the documentary filmmaker Marian Lacombe, were commissioned by the Qatar Museums Authority to document the pre-Olympic Arab Games in Doha last December.

Brigitte and Marian Lacombe traveling across the Arab world to document these athletes. “The young girls and women athletes we met were spirited and full of joy,” Brigitte says. “For them to arrive at this level of excellence requires extreme determination to overcome resistance––not only cultural, but economic and political.”
