<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><strong>(Beirut, Lebanon)</strong> – An international jury, chaired by <strong>Lord Peter Palumbo</strong>, Chairman of The Pritzker Prize for Architecture, has selected the winning design for the competition to design Beirut’s newest art museum, <strong>BeMA: Beirut Museum of Art</strong>. The firm <strong>HW architecture,</strong> led by Lebanese/French architect <strong>Hala Wardé</strong>, was selected from a shortlist of 13 design teams. The new museum will be centrally located in the heart of the Beirut positioned on a symbolically-charged site in Beirut that once marked the dividing lines in the Lebanese civil war — now to be transformed into a site of unification. The museum’s permanent collection will include modern and contemporary artworks from Lebanon, the Lebanese diaspora and the wider region.<br /><br />The jury also included curators <strong>Hans Ulrich Obrist</strong> and <strong>Dame Julia Peyton-Jones</strong>; architects <strong>George Arbid,</strong> <strong>Dr. Farès el-Dahdah, Dr. Rodolphe El-Khoury, Rem Koolhaas,</strong> and<strong> Lord Richard Rogers</strong>; artist <strong>Lamia Joreige; </strong>and APEAL president<strong> Henrietta Nammour</strong>. The late <strong>Zaha Hadid</strong>, who was active on the jury until her unfortunate passing in 2015, remains an honorary member of the jury.<br /><br />The winning design features a central campanile tower that will rise high nearly 400 feet above the base of the museum to act as a cultural beacon for the entire city. The campanile will include space for workshops and performances, as well as artist’s residences with expansive views of downtown Beirut. The design also includes a public garden and landscaped promenade that will accommodate site-specific installations and artworks surrounded by lush vegetation, as well as an amphitheater for performing arts. The Museum is situated on a plot of land owned by Université Saint-Joseph (USJ) and the selected design reflects a careful consideration of connections to the campus and to the larger urban surroundings.<br /><br />In a statement announcing the winner, the Jury noted that the design was selected for “the way it creates a succession of varied landscapes and spaces where art and society can come together. The connections between garden, amphitheater, exhibition spaces and roof garden have been well considered and offer a continuous visitor experience that lends itself to both exhibiting art and engaging with the community.”<br /><br />Hala Wardé, winner of the competition spoke of her excitement, “I am delighted and honored to realize my first major project in the city of Beirut where I was born, on such an exceptional site. This museum program, in connection with the university, will allow us to create a new cultural and social space with a garden and amphitheater, and will single out this artistic territory with a strong and recognizable urban beacon, which through its multiple expressions, will belong to the new urban landscape of the city. It is a moving coincidence to receive this news as the architectural world is gathered in London to honor Zaha Hadid, an inspiration to women and architects worldwide, who was originally a member of this competition’s jury. I am thinking of her today with great affection.”</span></span><br />

<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The jury noted the high standard of submissions throughout the process and thanked all participants for their creative submissions, which have contributed to further understanding the potential of the site and the museum. A special mention was also conferred to WORK Architecture Company, New York City, led by Columbia University of Architecture Dean Amale Andraos. The architecture competition began in October 2015.<br /><br />One of the most significant developments for Lebanese art and culture in a generation, BeMA is set to open in 2020, and is envisioned as a multidisciplinary hub of art and design dedicated to showcasing modern and contemporary Lebanese culture. The formation of <strong>BeMA: Beirut Museum of Art</strong> is spearheaded by The <strong>Association for the Promotion and Exhibition of the Arts in Lebanon</strong> (APEAL), a non-profit organization dedicated to international quality programs that support art from Lebanon and the global art scene.<br /><br />In the coming months the museum will announce further details about its collections and programming. The search for the museum’s founding director is currently underway.<br /><br />For further information on the project visit <strong><a data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?hl=en&q=http://cts.vresp.com/c/?FITZCO/8c51912a5f/f13a75f3ee/c30a06ba48&source=gmail&ust=1476781342355000&usg=AFQjCNEHcC5gsoaYLRTShsiOP6nKwRkPwQ" href="http://cts.vresp.com/c/?FITZCO/8c51912a5f/f13a75f3ee/c30a06ba48" style="color: #1155cc;" target="_blank">www.amuseuminthemaking.com</a>.</strong><br /> </span></span></div>

<div style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="color: dimgrey;">In his evocative paintings, Sadeghi draws on the rich traditions of Persian art, but adds to them a surreal edge. They involve dizzying spatial manipulations and startling combinations of real and fantastical objects, producing kaleidoscopes of colour and form. A master storyteller, Sadeghi's tales incorporate various sources that range from historical Persian iconography of swords, horses, gardens and warriors, to the compositions of archetypal Iranian miniatures and portraits. Sadeghi rearranges subjects of his interest in a variety of media, including painting, graphic design, illustration and animation. From this perspective, he is considered a master of Iran’s visual arts of the last five decades. Besides his paintings, Sadeghi has made seven films and won many awards at International Film & Animation Festivals. Sadeghi has been recognized as an outstanding cultural figure and contributor to Iranian art and culture by the Ministry of Culture in Iran.</span></div>

The Third Line is pleased to present Hassan Hajjaj’s third solo show in Dubai, <em style="vertical-align: baseline;">La Salle de Gym des Femmes Arabes</em>. The title, which translates into Gym for Arab Women, is a continuation of Hassan’s depiction of strong and spirited Arab women in his vision of Moroccan pop-culture.</div>
<div style="clear: both; color: #222222; font-size: 13px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
<table style="border-collapse: collapse; border-spacing: 0px; border-style: none; border-width: 0px; margin: auto; width: 100%px;"><tbody>
<tr><td align="left" style="clear: both; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" width="530"><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
<div align="justify" style="color: #262424; font-family: Optima, Segoe, 'Segoe UI', Candara, Calibri, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
For the exhibition, Hassan is delving into the traditional gym culture across the Arab world, transforming the gallery space into a makeshift recreational centre for women. Whereas Hassan has had easy access to fitness clubs for men in Morocco, he has never been inside a women-only sports facility or gym and he uses this as a trajectory to conceptualise such a space, keeping true to the aesthetics of his previous installations – all embodying the vibrant colour, texture and spirit of the Moroccan street vibe.</div>
<div align="justify" style="color: #262424; font-family: Optima, Segoe, 'Segoe UI', Candara, Calibri, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
The women photographed for this series are personal acquaintances of Hassan’s and they have been masked and dressed to represent fictional characters. They are presented in various uniforms and athletic gear, with popular brand names pieced together with traditional textiles and shapes – all designed and put together by the artist himself – and photographed on sets, posing with boxing gloves, gym shoes and socks, surfing boards and footballs. In some cases the women are seen wearing name jerseys with text in both English and Arabic.</div>
<div align="justify" style="color: #262424; font-family: Optima, Segoe, 'Segoe UI', Candara, Calibri, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1.3em; padding: 0px; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
The photographs included in this exhibition have been taken over many years and at different locations, only now coming together for this exhibition. Playing with gender norms associated with the gym space, Hassan inverts expectations with this body of photographic work featuring female figures of strength in the places where hyper-masculine imagery is normally featured, or imagined.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-align: justify;">
In addition to uncovering the brightest young artistic talents from the <a href="http://me.na.sa/" style="color: #1155cc;" target="_blank">ME.NA.SA</a> region (Middle East - North Africa – South Asia), the 2016 BEIRUT ART FAIR (15 - <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_13096217" style="border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; position: relative; top: -2px; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ" style="position: relative; top: 2px; z-index: -1;">18 September</span></span>) will also explore the unique historical trajectory of modernism in the Middle East, all while offering a program rich in visits, encounters and exchanges.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-align: justify;">
With 30% more exhibition space compared to 2015, a reconfigured selection committee, a new section — <strong><em>Revealing</em></strong> — dedicated to bringing to light region’s most promising young talents, and a curated exhibition — <strong><em>Lebanon Modern!</em></strong> — exploring the specific history of modern art in Lebanon and the Middle East, the 7th edition of the BEIRUT ART FAIR consolidates the event’s role as the leading platform for showcasing the artistic dynamism of the Levant.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-align: justify;">
The selection committee for the 2016 BEIRUT ART FAIR is comprised of a prestigious group of internationally renowned specialists and experts. These include Mr Jean-Hubert Martin - art historian, exhibition curator (including for the legendary 1989 exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Magiciens de la Terre) and former director of the Musée national d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris (1987-1990) and of the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf (1999-2006); Mr Hou Hanru, former Director of Exhibitions and Public Program and Chair of Exhibition and Museum Studies at the San Francisco Art Institute (2006-2012) and current Artistic Director of MAXXI - National Museum of the 21st Century Arts in Rome (since 2013); Mr Basel Dalloul and Mr Tarek Nahas, whose collections (respectively of painting and photography) figure among the most important in the region. </div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-align: justify;">
<em>Revealing</em> will represent an entirely new dimension of the fair, established with the goal of highlighting promising young artists in order to promote their discovery by the broader art world. Each selected gallery will showcase an artist of especially promising talent, offering privileged access for collectors and fairgoers and promoting the formation of professional contacts with the various actors present at the fair.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-align: justify;">
At the same time, <strong><em>Lebanon Modern!</em></strong> will provide the context and vocabulary necessary to a historical understanding of modernism in the Middle East between 1945 and 1970. It will present an in-depth look at the artists who defined these pivotal decades, much of whose history remains yet to be uncovered and written.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; text-align: justify;">
Beginning in the spring of 2016, a series of conferences and presentations organized in Beirut and in Paris will continue to develop and to contextualize these themes. And in keeping with its tradition of hospitality, the BEIRUT ART FAIR’s VIP program will be very…VIP, creating unique opportunities to discover new places (foundations, museums, etc.), along with some of the most exclusive private collections in the Lebanese capital.</div>

Diana Al-Hadid’s works transforms Renaissance and classical imagery into contemporary sculptural forms that appear to be decaying or resurfacing, often in a cascade of white, melting gypsum. Her towering sculptures, spectral wall pieces, and surreal bronzes will fill the 7,000 square foot gallery. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: justify;">
The exhibition takes its title from a central work, <em>Phantom Limb</em>, a term referring to the sensations that a missing arm or leg is still present, and able to move. The title captures the character of much of Al-Hadid’s work, which evokes memory and long cultural history through a visceral, materially-focused working technique. The theme of memory and its physical manifestations in art and architecture runs throughout Al-Hadid’s work. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: justify;">
The monumental sculpture of <em>Phantom Limb</em> is framed by two major wall insets: <em>The Sleepwalker</em> and <em>Still Life</em>. The first draws from the 4th Century BC bas-relief <em>Gradiva</em>, while the latter is a reworking of Hans Memling’s 1475 painting <em>Allegory of Chastity</em>. This ensemble travels from the artist’s recent show, <em>The Fates,</em> at the <a class="targetblank" href="http://www.secession.at/e.html" style="background-position: 0px 0px; color: black; line-height: inherit; word-wrap: break-word;" target="_blank">Secession Vienna</a>. These three “fates” anchor a series of related sculptures, alongside the world-premiere of an epic new triptych of wall panels. For these brightly colored, shimmering wall panels, Al-Hadid responds to the Renaissance triptych, <em>Battle of San Romano</em> by Paolo Uccello. Like Uccello, Al-Hadid experiments and expands the pictorial space in her panels, oscillating between painting and sculpture. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: justify;">
To accompany the exhibition, <span class="caps">NYUAD</span> Art Gallery will publish a scholarly catalogue, with texts by Renaissance and contemporary art historians and curators: Reindert Falkenburg (<span class="caps">NYU</span> Abu Dhabi), Alistair Rider (University of St. Andrews), and Sara Raza (Guggenheim). </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: justify;">
The exhibition derives in part from an exhibition at The Secession in Vienna, where Al-Hadid premiered the <em>Phantom Limb</em> sculpture. The <span class="caps">NYU</span> Abu Dhabi publication is paired with the sketchbook catalogue published by The Secession, and is in collaboration with Brown University’s <a class="targetblank" href="https://www.brown.edu/campus-life/arts/bell-gallery/" style="background-position: 0px 0px; color: black; line-height: inherit; word-wrap: break-word;" target="_blank">David Winton Bell Gallery</a>, where a different version of this exhibition is planned in the following year.</div>

As one of Dubai’s biggest social and cultural events is approaching, the city is gearing up for the grand opening of the Middle East’s largest Art and Design Fairs, Art Dubai and Design Days. Inspired by the art and creativity that’s on display during the month of March, the stunning boutique hotel, Vida Downtown Dubai collaborates with The Mine, a contemporary art gallery for unique emerging artists to unveil the second edition of #ARTINVIDA- one of the property’s many art driven initiatives to promote artistic dialogue and support the works of emerging artists in the region. </div>

For this special collaboration, The Mine will be presenting the renowned Japanese artist Yasuaki Onishi to create a site-specific installation titled “Reverse Volume” within the hotel’s minimalistic and contemporary interiors, in line with VIDA’s commitment to support the emerging local arts scene. The grand installation sculpted for VIDA Downtown Dubai’s high-ceiling lobby area, is the result of a joint effort to promote the artistic intervention of international and local emerging artists in public spaces to connect travellers and locals alike with the surrounding vibrant cultural landscape beyond the traditional gallery space.</div>

Reverse Volume, the intricate yet monumental mountain-like structure, which appears to float in space in the hotel lobby, is made up of unexpected rudimentary materials. Yasuaki Onishi uses plastic sheeting and black hot glue in a process he calls “casting the invisible” which involves the dressing of the plastic sheeting over stacked cardboard boxes, which are then removed to leave only their impressions. This process of “reversing” sculptures is Onishi’s reflection on the nature of the negative space. The molded form occupies the space and envelops the viewer who is invited to experience the installation by way of either walking beneath the sculpture or around it.</div>

With a strong dedication to the arts, through this collaboration, Vida Downtown Dubai will provide the opportunity to showcase for the first time a unique art installation offering their guests a unique and culturally inspiring experience. </div>

The paintings are painted with an acoustically absorbent / sound deadening paint called “coat of silence”</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">and are accompanied with the sound of chanting voices extracted from the lie detector, seeking to intensify the multi-sensory experience.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><u></u><u></u></span></div>

<div style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; margin: 5pt 0cm 12pt; text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Abu Hamdan will also be exhibiting in Frankfurt at Portikus for his first solo exhibition in Germany from 13 February to <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1092242892" style="border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; position: relative; top: -2px; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ" style="position: relative; top: 2px; z-index: -1;">10 April, 2016</span></span>. The exhibition, entitled <i>Earshot</i>, is comprised of a detailed acoustic analysis determining the death of two unarmed Palestinian teenagers shot by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank. The study, led by Abu Hamdan in collaboration with the human rights organisation, Defence for Children International, and Forensic Architecture, a Goldsmiths College-based agency, disproves the soldier’s claims to have used rubber bullets. The exhibition lays out the evidence through an installation encompassing sound, photographic prints, and a video to reflect more broadly on the aesthetics of evidence and the politics of sound and silence.</span></div>

Cities Boutique, the regions leading art, design and lifestyle store, is pleased to be participating for the second time in Design Days Dubai which takes place from in Dubai Design District (d3), <span class="aBn" data-term="goog_1140003252" style="border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; position: relative; top: -2px; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><span class="aQJ" style="position: relative; top: 2px; z-index: -1;">March 14-18, 2016</span></span>. Now in its fifth year, Design Days Dubai is an annual event which presents limited edition furniture and design objects gathered from some of the leading international designers and galleries from all across the world. It also provides a source of knowledge and education about the design sector through a series of workshops, installations, and live performances.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
The Cities’ exhibit at Design Days Dubai will focus on the theme of “Orientalism Reinterpreted.” The term “Orientalism” is often used to refer to depictions and imitations of aspects of Middle Eastern, South Asian, African and East Asian cultures. Typically, these depictions and imitations of the characteristics of Eastern cultures are carried out by people from the West, and over time, the term has come to denote a patronizing, clichéd and subtly prejudiced interpretation. Historically, this negative interpretation has appeared in countless designs and artworks which tend to generalize and exaggerate, resulting in an erroneous understanding of our culture and people. As time has passed, the word “orientalism” has faded from active usage as uncertainty surrounds its meaning. </div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
The Cities’ exhibit theme was conceived to reclaim ownership of this term and cast it in a more positive light. The display at Design Days Dubai shares designs which play upon these clichéd items and creations which were once considered accurate characterizations of Eastern cultures when defined by outsiders. Instead, Cities’ reinterprets these depictions; presenting designs which allude to these previous creations and their recognizable tropes, and subvert them, offering a different perspective on what “orientalism” is and how it should be defined.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
Working within the culture, the regional designers representing Cities offer their own depictions of the characteristics, styles, shapes and forms that historically have fallen under the term Orientalism. Each designer participating in the exhibit has chosen a recognizable design, structure, or motif that has been traditionally associated with Eastern cultures and has offered a reinterpretation of the creation which shares not only the cultural aspects and traditions inherent to the object, but also challenges these conventional perspectives by pushing the boundaries and offering conceptualized art and design. The result is a collection of design that is at times satirical and bold, and in other instances quietly shares a forgotten story. But above all, it is design that defines us as a culture; it is honest, true, and spoken from the heart.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
As such, the Cities’ display draws on the known and recognizable root, and portrays the assimilation of outside influences to result in creations that are cohesive, narrative, and forward-thinking as they break with the erroneous characterizations of the past and accurately share a modern definition of Orientalism. </div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
Highlights of the Cities’ display include new designs by Lebanese designer Khaled El Mays which were created specifically for Cities and this theme, as well as the art installation “L’Ouvert et L’Horizon,” from Lebanese group Hawini, and the Enxoval cabinet from Portuguese creators Alma de Luce. Cities is pleased to be participating again in this prestigious event and share with Dubai this exceptional exhibition created to explore the ideas of “Orientalism Reinterpreted.” </div>

A selection of new works from the artist’s ongoing Dream series is highlighted in this large-scale exhibition, including several mural-sized canvases.<br />
<br />
<strong>About the show</strong><br />
<br />
Although he began the influential body of work nearly three decades ago, Dahoul’s featured paintings reveal several recent changes in both the narrative of the series and his aesthetic. In 2015, Dahoul began isolating his recurring figure in ambiguous settings, releasing her from darkened cityscapes and barren landscapes that resemble actual sites in Syria. This transition began with scenes of his heroine wading through a fog-covered sea and progressed to images of falling rain that indicate a raging tempest. In these examples and the works that followed, Dahoul depicts his female protagonist against a flat white background, an effect that alludes to radiating light, and renders her face and body with gradations of greys illuminated by soft highlights.<br />
<br />
The meaning of the artist’s inverted colour scheme is left open to interpretation. The heavy usage of white can be understood as an indication of hope, or rebirth, a departure from the blackened sky or dim interiors that once enveloped his figures. Yet at the same time, white is the recognised colour of Muslim burial shrouds, signalling death, or mourning. Dahoul intentionally leaves the meaning of this detail to be resolved in the mind of the viewer, and only provides subtle clues that register how this latest chapter unfolds. A small paper boat, for example, is depicted in several works, evoking the war-induced mass exodus and migration that have altered Syria forever.<br />
<br />
Time and space are unbroken, continuing from one painting to the next, and in each composition there is a visible sense of melancholy. Dahoul’s figure, however, appears to have grown in size, her once slender body now muscular in form. In compositions such as Dream 116 she appears mechanical, her head, limbs, and torso pieced together as an assemblage of shapes as she leans towards a black circle that contains a glimpse of the Milky Way. As she seems to look down at what she has left behind, her kohl eye—patterned after the ancient Egyptian model—has become hollow again, perhaps an indication, as in earlier works, of receding life.<br />
<br />
<strong>About the Artist</strong><br />
<br />
As one of the foremost painters in the Arab world, Safwan Dahoul has repeatedly demonstrated how contemporary modes of figuration can describe the psychic terrain of a region that is in constant flux.<br />
<br />
Born in 1961 in Hama, Syria, Dahoul was initially trained by leading modernists at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Damascus before travelling to Belgium, where he earned a doctorate from the Higher Institute of Plastic Arts in Mons. Upon returning to Syria, he began teaching at the Faculty of Fine Arts and was a prominent member of the Damascus art scene. In the span of a decade, Dahoul nurtured a new generation of artists as an active mentor whose evolving aesthetic often ignited new directions in painting. Given the trajectory and status of his painting style, Dahoul’s career is regarded as a crucial link between modern and contemporary Arab art.<br />
<br />
Since the late 1980s, Dahoul’s ongoing Dream series has explored the physical and psychological effects of alienation, solitude, and longing that punctuate the human experience at various stages in life. Partly autobiographical, this seminal body of work uses the formal properties of painting to recreate the subconscious sense of enclosure that surfaces during times of crisis, whether in the event of mourning, estrangement, or political conflict. The artist’s recurring female protagonist facilitates this visceral experience through her contorted body, often-vacant eyes, and minimised yet monumental physicality. Depicted in the confinement of ambiguous settings, her presence is defined by the placement of various objects that seem to deepen the state of her disaffection, as even the familiar becomes a trigger of distress.<br />
<br />

In line with Lexus’ philosophy to inspire beyond expectations, INTERSECT BY LEXUS has quickly become the new destination for cosmopolitan urbanites of Dubai, attracting budding entrepreneurs, established businessmen, the quirky artistic crowd, and the stylish fashionistas, as the unique design and immaculate décor cater to all those in search of a more culturally stimulating environment. INTERSECT BY LEXUS is exactly that, as it embodies the essence of modern luxury and chic minimalism, with subtle bursts of original design elements and innovative creations.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
Masamichi Katayama, the world-renowned interior designer and founder of the interior design firm Wonderwall, is the vision behind the development of both the Tokyo and Dubai concepts, and it is through his design genius that INTERSECT BY LEXUS was born. Katayama visited Dubai for the exciting launch of INTERESCT BY LEXUS, where his stunning designs were celebrated and unveiled to Dubai’s elite and key stakeholders. Using muted color palates, industrial pieces, geometric shapes and sleek lines, the funky design elements capture both the vibrant life of DIFC and the understated cool that INTERSECT BY LEXUS attracts. The juxtaposition of contemporary design and chic elegance capture the youthful and edgy aspects of this new endeavor of Lexus which is the result of this creative space that has given a fresh look to the luxury Lexus brand.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
The use of space is key in the two-floor INTERSECT BY LEXUS as the first level opens up into an exceptional eatery and library that are engulfed in eclectic décor. The main dining level is surrounded by high floor-to- ceiling windows covered in an intricate bamboo façade which allows natural light to pour in through spindle grille motifs that portray the new design of Lexus cars. Six symmetrical marble pillars abounding in a collection of well selected books and creative reads line the walls of the space forming a curated library. In between the towering bookshelves are stylish yet comfortable dining areas which use the same, soft, smooth leather that is present in the Lexus supercat, the LFA, leaving guests enveloped in authentic creativity.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
The Dubai venue also features some special local touches that evoke the essence of the UAE through the beautiful off-white ceilings which are inspired by sand dunes and create an endlessness to the space. The fluid dune ceilings are perfectly complimented by a spectacular, industrial chandelier made from hand blown glass that acts as a centerpiece to the space. The large black and white mural entitled, Lexus City, by Ryu Itadani, hanging above the barista counter and sunken kitchen was commissioned exclusively for INTERSECT BY LEXUS. This breathtaking piece of art depicts the global facets to the Lexus brand, through hand picked international landmarks which are connected through one road symbolizing the intersection of Lexus. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;">There is also a hidden projector screen within the sand dunes making it the perfect destination for the multiple art, design and culture events and activations that INTERSECT BY LEXUS will put on.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
The lower garage level of INTERSECT BY LEXUS is equally as breath taking and designed with the same immaculate craftsmanship and attention to detail. The spindle grille shapes are seen again in the staircase which mimics that of tire tracks and uses hexagonal black and white tiles to take you into the mind of Lexus design philosophy. This enthralling staircase leads you into an ultra modern garage displaying a Lexus concept car. The transparent floor features Lexus car parts which have been painted in a luminescent, bright white that allows the floor to glow and mesmerize guests. Adjacent to this futuristic garage is a meticulously designed wall full of hundreds of miniature toy cars, featuring various generations of Lexus cars and displaying the powerful mark that Lexus has left on the car industry.</div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: justify;">
“INTERSECT BY LEXUS is not just about creating a branding space, but rather an ‘environment.’ It is an environment of new concepts that spotlight the people and the phenomena surrounding the LEXUS brand,” explains Katayama. “It is a place where people interact with a wide range of information and activities as an incubation platform generating new innovative ideas and concepts, it has been designed to evoke the feeling of a clubhouse or lounge, allowing people with shared values to come together and interact in a relaxed yet inspiring environment.” </div>
