House of Today > First Artisanal Platform in Lebanon (Beirut)

House of Today is a platform by Cherine Magrabi that brings a network of Lebanese traditional craftsmen together with diversely versed local designers and visual artists to creatively explore the combination between art, craft and design. “Designed craftsmanship” – the integration of artisanal methods and techniques in contemporary design practices – is not a totally novel interest, but this trend in Lebanon has been yielding much success in recent years, proposing a particularly curious collision of the two realms and exposing the marvels of local traditional artistries, ones the Lebanese themselves are about to forget and the rest of the world has yet to see.

In its first edition, Cherine Magrabi has chosen the theme of 'Confessions' for artists and designers to create their own personal rendition and revelations of their personal confessions.  An impressive roster of prominent Lebanese designers such as: Annabel Kassar, Bernard Khoury, Joe Kesrouani, Hoda Baroudi & Maria Hibri (Bokja), Karen Chekerdjian, Karim Chaya, Makram El Kadi, May Daouk, Nada Debs, Nadim Karam, Rabih Kayrouz, Raed Abillama, Riad Kamel & Souheil Hanna have created limited edition pieces that each reveal the artists' confessions.

House of Today was launched on the 29th of May, in a very exclusive setting in the presence of Cherine Magrabi and all designers, and will last for one month until the 29th of June 2012.
