" At night it is so quiet that you begin to hear the stars.” Benedict Allen
Adrère Amellal is a secluded 39-room ecolodge in the heart of the Sahara Desert. Sixty feet below sea level, the lodges have been built according to the traditional architectural practices of the Siwan community with rock salt, mud, and palm making up the structures.
The ecolodge is all-natural, meaning no electricity. At night, guests find their way around the hotel using oil lamps and candles. Heating is provided using coal-filled braziers, while cool air circulates by way of the hotel's natural ventilation system. Guests dine on traditional dishes prepared in honey-glazed clay pots. The organic garden, which includes olive and palm groves, provides some of the natural and locally-produced ingredients used in the dishes. While dining or lounging, guests can enjoy views of endless Sahara and lake Siwa.
Some of the well-known guests of Adrère Amellal include Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Adrère Amellal continues to benefit the community by preserving the traditions of Siwa and employing the community at this beautiful eco-lodge.
