معرض "هيّا: النساء العربيات في الرياضة" #لندن - Hey’Yah: Arab Women in Sport

Commissioned by Qatar Museums Authority, Hey’Yah: Arab Women in Sport, the first exhibition in London by the internationally renowned photographer Brigitte Lacombe with the documentary maker Marian Lacombe, will go on show at Sotheby’s London from 25 July – 11 August 2012, in conjunction with the Olympiad in London.  The exhibition features a brand new series of large-scale photographs by Brigitte Lacombe of more than 50 Arab sportswomen (above image: Saudi equestrian Dalma Malhas), from beginners to Olympians, from 20 different Arab countries, shown alongside videos by her sister, Marian Lacombe, which situate the images within the women’s personal histories and a wider – often unspoken – discourse of gender, culture and sport in the Arab world.  

بالتزامن مع الألعاب الأولمبية في لندن، تنظم هيئة متاحف قطر معرض (هيّا:النساء العربيات في الرياضة)، في دار سوذبيز في لندن من 25 يوليو وحتى 11 أغسطس 2012. وسيشكل هذا المعرض أول معرض في لندن للمصورة العالمية المشهورة بريجيت لاكومب وصانعة الأفلام الوثائقية ماريان لاكومبيضم هذا المعرض مجموعة جديدة من أكثر من 50 صورة بعدسة بريجيت لاكومب لعدد من الرياضيات العربيات المبتدآت أو اللواتي شاركن في الألعاب الأولمبية. ترافق هذه الصور مجموعة من الأفلام القصيرة التي قامت شقيقة بريجيت، ماريان لاكومب، بتصويرها والتي تساهم في إعطاء لمحة عن تاريخ هذه النساء اللواتي تأتين من أكثر من 20 دولة عربية. كما تساهم في عرض بعض المواضيع التي تتعلق بالإختلاف بين الجنسين، بالثقافة وبالرياضة في العالم العربي

The project, shot over a period of seven months, began in December 2011, in the Athletes Village at the Arab Games in Doha, where Brigitte and Marian Lacombe set up a specially created outdoor studio, working side by side. Thereafter they traveled, working with women athletes of all ages and levels of achievement in countries from the Gulf to North Africa. With the support of Qatar’s Aspire programme, which promotes sporting opportunities for young people, they also worked with the talented younger generation of sporting hopefuls.   

لقد بدأ التحضير للمعرض في ديسمبر من العام 2011 في قرية الرياضيين خلال دورة الألعاب العربية في الدوحة وقد استغرقت عملية التصوير سبعة أشهر قامت خلالها بريجيت وماريان لاكومب بالعمل جنباً إلى جنباً في الأستوديو الذي أنشئ في الهواء الطلق خصيصاً لإنجاز هذا المشروع، من ثمّ سافرتا لمقابلة وتصوير بعض الرياضيات من جميع الأعمار والمستويات الرياضية في جميع أنحاء العالم العربي. كما أنهما وبدعم من اكاديمية أسباير في قطر والتي تهتم بتعزيز الفرص الرياضية للشباب قامتا بمقابلة بعض الرياضيات الشابات الموهوبات واللواتي تتطلعن إلى تحقيق العديد من الإنجازات الرياضية في المستقبل

تنظم هيئة متاحف قطر هذا المعرض جامعةً بين التزامها المستمر بالعمل مع فنانين عالميين لعرض أعمالهم الفنية وبين رؤية دولة قطر التي تهدف إلى خلق نقاش وحوار حول الرياضة وأهميتها ومحاولة إقناع عدد أكبر من الفتيات لإيجاد طريقة للمشاركة في النشاطات الرياضية  

The exhibition was conceived by the Qatar Museums Authority, combining their long-standing commitment to commissioning and showing the work of internationally renowned artists with the wider goal of the country to drive forward Qatar’s aim of educating and sparking debate about sport, and of persuading more girls to find a way to participate.  Award-winning French photographer Brigitte Lacombe lives in New York City. Over the last thirty years, she has worked extensively on assignments in magazines, the theatre and film. The long list of legendary directors she has worked with include Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Mike Nichols, Sam Mendes, Michael Haneke, David Mamet, Quentin Tarantino, Spike Jonze, and since 1983 she has worked on all David Mamet’s productions. Her work has been extensively published including two monographs (2001 and 2009). Since 2009, she has been working on an ongoing project for the Doha Film Institute and the Doha Tribeca Film Festival in Qatar. Entitled, I am Film, this is a collection of portraits of international filmmaker and actors, with an emphasis on filmmakers from the Middle East region.   

تعيش المصورة الفرنسية بريجيت لاكومب الحائزة على عدة جوائز عالمية في مدينة نيويورك. وقد عملت بشكل مكثف طوال السنوات الثلاثين الماضية على مشاريع خاصة ببعض المجلات والمسارح والأفلام. وتضم لائحة المخرجين العالميين الذين عملت معهم ماريان كلاًّ من ستيفن سبيلبرغ، مارتن سكورسيزي، سبايك جونز، مايك نيكولز، سام مندس، مايكل هانك، كوينتن تارانتينو و ديفيد ماميت. نشرت أعمالها على نطاق واسع ومن ضمنها كتابين أحدهما عام 2001 والآخر عام 2009. كما أنها بدأت عام 2009 بالعمل على أحد مشاريع مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام و مهرجان الدوحة ترايبكا السينمائي في قطر بعنوان "أنا الفيلم" وهو عبارة عن مجموعة صور لصانعي أفلام وممثلين مع التركيز على المخرجين الذي ينتمون إلى منطقة الشرق الأوسط

Marian Lacombe works as an independent documentary film-maker, following 20 years as a reporter, anchorwoman and editor-in-chief on daily news and magazines for the French TV channel M6 in Paris. She has directed documentaries on filmmakers, choreographers and designers such as Robert Altman, Philippe Decouflé and Christian Lacroix. Since 2010, she has been working with Brigitte Lacombe for the Doha Film Institute photographic project I am Film. She also travels around the world filming and working on travel assignments for Condé Nast Traveler Magazine.  Hey’Ya, the title of the exhibition is an Arabic expression meaning Let’s Go.

تعمل ماريان لاكومب اليوم كوثائقية مستقلة كما أنها تملك 20 سنة من الخبرة كمراسلة ومذيعة ورئيسة تحررير في العديد من وسائل الإعلام منها القناة الفرنسية الخاصة أم 6 في باريس. وقد قامت بإخراج أفلام وثائقية عن بعض المخرجين ومصصمي الرقص والمصممين من بينهم روبرت ألتمان وفيليب ديكوفلي وكريستيان لاكروا. وهي تعمل اليوم منذ العام 2010 على مشروع التصوير الخاص بمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، "أنا الفيلم". تسافر ماريان حول العالم أيضاً لإنجاز مهام ومشاريع خاصة بمجلة "كوندي ناست ترافلر"
