Nasser Al Salem's Solo Exhibition
Neon rods and wooden columns are not usually a calligraphers’ tools, yet Nasser Al Salem explores new non-conventional mixed media ways of demonstrating his calligraphic designs. For his first solo exhibition, Salem pays homage to the Islamic artistic tradition of beautifully recording Arabic script. Shifting his focus from the beauty of transcription to the message, the artist reinforces the meaning of the words through his choice of contemporary mediums, successfully establishing the role of calligraphy in the world of conceptual art: “And It Remains…” opens on Tuesday the 30th of July at Athr Gallery, Jeddah. The exhibition will run from the 30th of July to the 30th of August, 2012.

Group Exhibition
This marks the first group calligraphy exhibition at Athr Gallery. This exhibition will explore the dimensions of Arabic Calligraphy today by displaying a broad spectrum of ‘contemporary Arabic calligraphic art’, including traditionalist work, work from the school of Hurufiyya as well as works that explore new typefaces. Participating artists include Hassan Massoudy, Mouneer Al-Sha'raani, Dr. Hilal Kazan, Dr. Nassar Mansour, Samir Sayegh, Hajji Noordeen, Farah Behbehani and Nja Mehdaoui.

Furniture & Home Accessory Exhibition
Nada Debs, of Lebanese origin, grew up in Japan, studied Interior Architecture at RISD in America, and worked as a furniture designer in England before creating her company in Lebanon in 2000. The East & East concept is a celebration of Eastern craftsmanship through contemporary design, using Arab heritage as a platform into modernity. NADA DEBS has 3 retail outlets in Beirut and is represented globally in NY,Paris, Dubai, Geneva. Nada is exhibiting her Furniture & Home Accessory collections at Athr Gallery on Tuesday, July 30th at 10pm to 1am. The exhibition will run til the 30th of August, 2012
