East Wing presents -The Other Hundred, a unique photography initiative created as a counterpoint to popular media's 'rich lists', such as the Forbes 100, to bring attention to stories of people from around the world who are not rich, but deserve to be celebrated. The Other Hundred was launched in Hong Kong on 10 October 2013.

The exhibition features a selection of images from the 100 photo-stories drawn from 91 countries across 6 continents an is the result of a worldwide collaboration between amateur and professional photographers who submitted more than 11,000 images from 158 countries. The Other Hundred is dedicated to people whose lives deserve recognition, but would never make the cut of celebrated media ranked 'rich lists', yet make important contributions to society at large.

The initiative was created by Chandran Nair, Founder and CEO of The Global Institute For Tomorrow( GIFT), an independent pan-Asian think tank based in Hong Kong. He describes The Other Hundred as follows: "While the project is aimed to shed light on the unspoken majority, it does not attempt to celebrate poverty or criticize wealth. The goal of 'The Other Hundred' is both to inform and to provoke thought. The implication of many of the rich lists and articles put out by the media communicates that being rich is the only way to succeed, or live a life of meaning. The reality is that the majority of the people in the world are not rich and we wanted to tell their side of the story."

The Other Hundred has developed into an annual event with a new publication created each year of the full selection of images with featured essays by some of the best writers and thinkers from around the world; Award winning author and thinker Pankaj Mishra, renowned Chinese poet Bei Dao, award winning journalist Amy Goodman, and acclaimed authors Janice Galloway, Carlos Gamerro and Chika Unigwe all contribute their unique points of view to the first issue of the publication.

The project been featured in over 120 media outlets including: CNN, BBC, NHK, The Guardian, Al-Jazeera, Forbes, Huffington Post and exhibitions have been mounted in Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as other world cities in the coming months.

The Other Hundred is a not-for-profit initiative, supported by sponsors including the East West Cultural Development Centre, MasterCard, TC Capital, Turkish Airlines, FleishmanHillard, The International New York Times and Quam Financial Services Group. The book is published worldwide by One World Publications based in London with a cover by award-winning design firm Karl Anders - more information about the book and the full presentation of images can be found at:
