In the context of Europe's Day celebrations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in May 2012, the Delegation of the European Union to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announces the launching of a photography competition entitled "Europe Seen through Saudi Eyes".
The contest is open to Saudi nationals who are invited to submit personal photos of landscapes,
architectural features and people taken in the countries of the European Union, while traveling, studying, working or living in the European Union.
The photos, not more than three per contestant, can be submitted by uploading onto the "Europe Seen
through Saudi Eyes" group via Flickr™
(http://www.flickr.com/group /europe_seen_through_saudi_eyes/ ) or Facebook© (http://www.facebook.com/groups/186218178157860/). Alternatively, the photos can be
sent by e-mail to SaudiSeenEurope@yahoo.com. Flickr™ and Facebook© terms of use will apply.
Photo file names should indicate the locations in the European Union where the photos have been taken.
The Delegation of the European Union shall determine winner eligibility at its sole and absolute discretion. To ensure eligibility for the contest, all digital entries must have a high resolution (ideally in JPEG format and greater than 3 MB).
Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, artistic merit and overall impact by a panel of European and Saudi officials. The judging panel will select up to 60 finalist photos which will be exhibited on the occasion of Europe's Day, on 9 May 2012, at the King Abdul-Aziz National Museum, in Riyadh, and in other public locations, thereafter. The judging panel will also select the Grand Prize Winner, the 2nd and the 3rd Prize Winners, and the Honourable Mentions. All decisions made by the judges will be final.
The awarded photos will be presented with a token of recognition and will be advertised and acknowledged in the media. All finalists will be invited to attend the inauguration of the exhibition, on 9 May 2012, in the presence of European and Saudi officials (the Delegation of the European Union will not be able to pay for any travel expenses incurred).
The owners of the selected photos will be asked to provide an entry form (which, among others,
should make proof of Saudi nationality), and to sign a statement whereby it is declared that they are
the copyright owners of the photos submitted and that they agree with the use of their photos in public exhibitions, the media, on the europa.eu website and in other publications of the European Union, without any financial or material implications. The Delegation of the European Union reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the
photo competition at any given time.
The deadline for submitting the photos is 13 April 2012 (11.59pm, Riyadh time).
