Ramin Salsali & Zeinab Al Hashemi with her piece, "Hessa"

HH Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum visits the Abaya Exhibition

"If the opportunity to put the spotlight on these talented women wasn’t enough, we at Ara were further honored by the attendance of His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority to inaugurate the opening of this new concept exhibition! Browsing the artworks on display, the artists had the opportunity to speak with His Highness about their concepts and creations inspired by the Abaya and the UAE’s rich culture and heritage. We were also thrilled to welcome the internationally-exhibited and award winning Emirati artist, Dr. Najat Maki, as a special guest at the opening of Abaya" - The Ara Gallery

"The Abaya, a reflection of culture and religion worn by Emirati women. With the differences in their experiences, their lives, their past & present, one thing draws the Emirati women together, a black piece of cloth, a symbol of being an Emirati woman." The Ara Gallery

This exhibition brings together six Emirati emerging women artists. Each transformed the idea of the Abaya into works of art; from belonging to culture, to abstract representations of the black Abaya. This collection captures the essence of the Abaya and transforms it into more than just a black piece of cloth, but a symbol of pride, beauty, and individuality.

Featuring works created exclusively for this exhibition by: Alia Hussain Lootah | Maitha Demithan | Moaza Matar | Shamma Al Amri | Sheikha Aysha Saqer Al Qassimi | Zeinab Al Hashemi
