Artworks presented in exhibition
spaces often do not invite audience participation. The works are presented as completed objects, in and of themselves. As such, the
audience assumes the role of casual observer when viewing these artworks
- outside the artistic process, rather than integral to it. In Method
to the Madness, Cuadro and CAP Kuwait alter this paradigm through the
work of Jaffar Al Oraibi, Jowhara AlSaud, Noor Al Suwaidi and Nadine
Kanso. Alongside the completed works sit peripheral materials typically
found in an artist's studio that unveil the process of artistic choice
and the evolutionary nature of the creation of art. Introducing these
materials into the gallery setting initiates a more interactive dialogue
as viewers are invited to step into the mind of the artist and
experience the work through the choices taken to make the art.
An education program with Cuadro’s
in-house educator, Roberto Lopardo, will be carried out along with the
exhibition. A series of lectures and workshops will provide audience
members with insight and analysis on decision-making in contemporary art
practice.
