My Family, My People > Solo exhibition by artist Mohamed Abla > Art Space London's official opening @ARTSPACE_DUBAI

Originally founded in Dubai, 2003, ARTSPACE Gallery announced the opening of its London gallery, located on 7 Milner Street, Chelsea on the 9th May 2012. ARTSPACE London will continue to pioneer the art of Contemporary Middle Eastern Masters, and also expand its expertise to focus on contemporary Iranian & Turkish art.

ARTSPACE will unveil a beautiful body of work, that has taken nearly a decade to complete, for the official opening of ARTSPACE London. The exhibition entitled My Family, My People, is a collection of Family Portraits, Paper & Political works by internationally renowned Egyptian artist Mohamed Abla.

Born in Belqas, Egypt in 1953, the artist first gained fame in the 1980’s for his unique style of blending European influences into traditional Egyptian ways of painting. The Alexandria Biennale prize-winner Abla, has had many of his artworks procured by prestigious institutions and important collections such as the British Museum.

My Family, My People narrates a story of the artist Mohamed Abla, who invites us into his home, past and present. The artworks weave a rich tapestry of stories, giving an insight into both family life in Egypt and that of the artist. Mohamed Abla’s artworks stir the memory, with nostalgic imagery and touching portraits of family and political scenes that some how feel familiar.
