Athr Gallery is proud to present Saudi artist Manal Al Dowayan’s first solo exhibition in Jeddah ‘A Journey of Belonging’, presenting new work by the artist as well as seminal work from her previous series. The exhibition investigates the artist’s strong emotional ties with her homeland, its people and its landscape and the symbiotic nature of this relationship, at times aspirational and surreal.

A Journey of Belonging gives unique and candid perspectives into the intense and idiosyncratic relationships that exists between a woman and her homeland, exploring feelings of alienation, belonging, and identity.
The beloved—frequently distant, uninterested, or unapproachable—can remain an object of indefinite idealization.
