The city of Leeds has played muse to many creative souls over the years including indie-rock band The Kaiser Chiefs, famed artist Damien Hirst and singer songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae amongst others.
This time, the city which is the fourth largest metropolitan city in the UK, has been a crucial turning point in the life of Saudi photographer Bayan Al Sadiq. Al-Sadiq, who studied and fell in love with the city of Leeds sought refuge in her camera. “The UK inspired me and I wanted to remember every single place in Leeds, before I left back to Saudi.” And the rest as they say was history.
Back in Saudi Arabia, while working full time, Al-Sadiq’s love for photography never diminished and she taught herself the techniques needed. Her hobby soon developed and found her opening her own photography business that specialized in children and commercial photography. Al Sadiq is a member of the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP), The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and member of the Editorial Board of the Omani Magazine “Perfect Designer”. She has won several awards for her photographs and has been published in magazines and newspapers across the region.
Why is it important to be connected to other photographers and be a member of photographic societies?
To benefit and learn from their experience and to improve my photography skills. I always look for ways to improve my photography. Our learning journies should never stop!
You specialize in children and commercial photography, why those two?
I love kids and their innocence. The most amazing thing is when the kids come up to me after the photoshoot and ask when are they going to come again. It just feels amazing!
You also currently have a series of photographs featuring Amazon’s dubbed Danbo character- how did that start?
I love still life photography where you make and create the scene for the picture rather than just taking it. After seeing photos of Danbo, I decided to buy it. It has been amazing learning tool to create scenes and has developed my still life scenery. People love the Danbo photos and the great thing about it is that it helps improve my photographic skills further.
