The best of Russia’s Bolshoi and Mariinsky
theaters are bringing ballet to Bahrain’s National Theatre on the 9th and 10th
of December, 2012. The production
will showcase a collection of classic and contemporary pieces performed by some
of the best known names in ballet: Denis Matveinko, Anastasia Stashkevich, Igor
Kolb and Ekaterina Osmolkina.
Ballet originated in France, but it’s close
association with Russia stems from Marius Petipa’s move to St Petersburg in 1847. Along with Lev Ivanov and Tchaikovsky,
Petipa produced Sleeping Beauty,
The Nutcracker, and Swan
Lake -- masterpieces that redefined the dance genre and continue
to dominate the stage.
With dances from Swan
Lake, Don Quixote,
and Le Corsaire the Gala
Russe:Stars of the Russian Ballet program combines the
different styles of Russia’s premier ballet companies in a true celebration of
the art form.
Tickets are sold at the
Virgin Megastore in Bahrain’s City Center and online at (virginmegastore.me). Special student rates apply to Balcony
seats. The show begins at 8pm.
Gates will be open from 7pm.
