In Conversation with Shirine Saad @shirinesaad By Nora Ghandour in @oasismag 's latest Issue

Born in Beirut, Saad was exposed to an assortment of cultures as she grew up in France, Canada, Lebanon, and New York. Eleven years ago, while pursuing her B.A. in Art History and International Development at McGill University in Canada, Saad was appointed Culture Editor of the campus newspaper – leading her to the domain of Journalism. She continued to empower her career by completing an M.S. in Magazine Journalism, and also an M.A. in Arts and Culture Journalism in New York.

Saad’s seasoned background, extensive education, and passion for journalism allowed her to professionally showcase her talent. She has written and edited in several renowned publications both in English and French, including: The New York Times, CITY, Elle, V, FASHION, Nowness, W, En Route, and the list continues. Her topics mainly revolve around culture, lifestyle, travel, and arts. However, there is no limit to Saad’s ideas and angles. She has also covered complex themes like molecular gastronomy and ecological architecture.

When asked about her inspiration and motivating key she stated, “I love to learn about new subjects, to research, and to write. The process of writing helps me unlock questions that are important to me, and this analysis is very fulfilling.”

Saad extended her process of writing in 2012 by publishing a book called Boho Beirut: A Guide to the Middle East’s Most Sophisticated City. Her book offers hidden places to visitors of Beirut and the general public, which only locals would be aware of. When asked about the trigger for choosing Beirut as the theme of her first book, she expressed, “I felt that no existing guidebook reflected the city’s dynamic cultural scene, and I wanted to give a voice to the tastemakers who are making a difference.”
