It took a chance meeting between Balqis AlRashed, self-described as ‘a Saudi Hybrid’, and Ghassan Aloshban to create Qabila Apparel, a homegrown Khaleeji label that specializes in producing high quality casual wear and accessories.
Using the t-shirt as a creative medium, the dynamic duo work with local and regional designers to showcase their talents and to express a common fascination, frustration, affliction,
happiness and humor of their shared culture. Discussing their choice of medium the twosome described the t-shirt’s versatility and, much like a canvas, its ability to relate to a wide audience, “
The t-shirt is the most versatile fashion garment, widely consumed by both genders and all age groups… it’s what people use to express their personalities and convey a message loudly for everyone to see. For graphic artists, a t-shirt is a blank canvas for wearable art. It’s the perfect vehicle for fashionable artistic expression on a mass scale. Our intention is to make our local art and talents more accessible to the public and the t-shirt is a good place to start.”
Producing two collections a year of limited edition pieces, which offer artists and designers a chance to move from their sketch books to a produced product, Qabila Apparel uses only the finest materials and even uses the same print house as world renowned brand Alexander McQueen.
