This May, don't miss > Arts, Design,& Film Workshops @AlaanArtSpace #Riyadh (incl workshops for Kids & Teens)

  • Nature Printing in Paint and Photography with the Sun! (8 to 10 years old)
In these two workshops, we’ll be inspired by the nature photographs on view in the gallery. Note: We’ll supply leaves, etc. to use, but also bring in other bits of nature from home, like seashells and feathers, or things from your yard, like flowers and leaves.
May 2, Thursday at 11am - 1pm
Since ancient times, humans have sought ways to preserve the beauty of nature. In this workshop, kids will make nature prints by applying paint to leaves, flowers, grasses, etc., and then add them to their own hand-made “Book of Nature” to bring home. Kids who like to write, can also add their own reflection or poem capturing nature in image and word.

May 16, Thursday at 11am - 1pm
Sunprinting, also called “nature printing,” is both art and science—made with special light sensitive paper that uses Sun Power (sunlight) to “photograph” nature. We’ll make our own sunprints to include in a hand-made “Book of Nature” to bring home. Afterwards, we’ll add your child’s favorite nature print to the global Sunprint Flickr Stream for all to enjoy.

Documentary film can be defined in many ways: as "creative treatment of actuality,” as "life as it is" (that is, life filmed surreptitiously); and "life caught unawares" (life provoked or surprised by the camera). Others define a documentary film as "a factual film which is dramatic." Others further state that a documentary stands out from the other types of non-fiction films for providing an opinion, and a specific message, along with the facts. Documentary viewing, (Manufactured Landscapes [2006] by documentarian Jennifer Baichwal) followed by informal discussion, with Alāan's staff.
