Building on its focus on
cross-cultural exchange, Cuadro Gallery has partnered with the Dubai-based
non-profit group Project Encounter to expand its Residency to allow
international artists to create work in the region.
The aim of the Cuadro-Project
Encounter partnership is to allow international artists to come into contact
with the culture and heritage of the Middle East. The program will host two
artists in the UAE and another in Bahrain, through strategic partnerships with
Maraya Art Centre and the Shaikh Ebrahim Center, respectively.
Roberto Lopardo, Education and
Residency Coordinator at Cuadro Gallery, states “Over the last four years, The
Residency Program at Cuadro has presented artists with a unique opportunity to
live and work in the heart of the Middle East. Our partnership with Project
Encounter, Maraya Art Centre and Shaikh Ebrahim Center allows us to expand upon
these opportunities. We are excited to have found like-minded partners which
allow us to continue our tradition of welcoming artists from around the world
to the region.”
Nick Billotti, co-founder of
Project Encounter, adds “What makes this program unique is the chance to see
the physical manifestation of an artists’ experience in coming to this region.
Project Encounter is proud to be involved in using art as a vehicle to bridge the
cultural divide and promote a greater understanding between the Middle East and
Western World.”
International artists can submit applications
for the Residency Program at Cuadro in partnership with Project Encounter until
June 20. The Residency will run from September until December 2012. Applicants
