Upcoming Exhibition > Recounting Palestine's Stories; An Intervention > @Al_Madad @ARTSPACE_DUBAI > 15-23 June

Al Madad Foundation is pleased to announce a group exhibition of work by seven London- based emerging artists alongside drawings by children living in Bethlehem. This dual show will focus of story-telling and the sharing of dialogue across cultures and generations.
From a series of photographs taken in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, 12 prints have been selected to be reworked by our chosen artists who have intervened with the existing images by conceptualising their own narrative through a range of different media. The end result is a stunning array of eclectic canvases which overlay the original monochrome images of daily life under military occupation with contemporary interpretations. Worked in materials from oil paint and silk screen to textiles and ink, each piece presents a unique narrative, an interweaving of stories from the West Bank to London.
Alongside the large canvases will be a display of colourful drawings produced by Palestinian children from a Bethlehem rehabilitation centre. Intricate and intimate, the drawings demonstrate that despite living under military occupation, the children are not defined by the politics of their surroundings nor by their injuries but simply by the fact that they are children. And just as children everywhere, their art work reflects dreams of a healthy, happy family, a bright future and above all, a profound innocence. This exhibition is not politically motivated, but rather is a platform for empowering the otherwise voiceless child through the universal language of visual art.

About:
Al Madad Foundation is a registered charity based in London committed to alleviating poverty and social exclusion by promoting cultural dialogue and artistic expression. Proceeds from sales of pieces from this exhibition will go directly to the Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation (BASR) which provides conventional medical treatment as well as modern rehabilitation services with a focus on those with disabilities. Such treatments are rarely available in the Occupied Territories and aim to improve the lives of disadvantaged members of the community to create a more inclusive society. The Ghirass Cultural Centre is a subsidiary project of BASR which provides a safe space for children’s creative and personal growth.
