Afghan/American artist Gazelle Samizay's Solo Inaugurates New Art Space @LawrieShabibi > #Dubai

Lawrie Shabibi gallery will be launching a new Project Spac on the 10th of September, 2012.  The Project Space is part of their mission to promote upcoming artists, show a diverse range of art practices to our audiences and provide an opportunity for smaller shows.  Exhibitions in the Project Space will coincide with other exhibitions in the main gallery.

Their inaugural exhibition is im/pure, a solo by Afghan/American artist Gazelle Samizay.  im/pure is Gazelle Samizay’s first solo exhibition and she will be presenting a series of photographs and two new video works.

Samizay uses video to immerse the viewer in imagined narratives inspired by her own reality, with photographs that act as snapshots of the experience, at times pausing the narration of traumas in time to allow for reflection. In her new series Samizay considers the notion of the passage of time and the human desire for release - from burdens, grief and past experiences – reflecting upon whether there is ever a true catharsis or if we carry these within us forever. In the main gallery space Lawrie Shabibi Gallery presents Placebo a group exhibition of works from: Hamra Abbas, Sama Alshaibi, Driss Ouadahi, Shahpour Pouyan and Marwan Sahmarani.
