Riyadh Fashion Days > Celebrating Local Fashion Talents (April 8-11 @MaisonBoM Riyadh)

"Maison Bo-M Galeries presents Riyadh Fashion Days, a new creative platform to support up and coming talents from the Region. Let’s get together and celebrate the Fashion Stars of Tomorrow!" - Riyadh Fashion Days

Nouri by Nour Kelani
Excerpt from the Oasis Magazine feature on Nouri: Now, we have all probably heard of Nouri. She plunged in to the fashion industry shocking all critics with her unconventionality and soon became the new mythical fashion diva in town. A Syrian, raised in Saudi and married to one, she holds pride close to her identity. She studied International Relations but continued the pursuit for her love of fashion. She grants her collection a mix of funk flamboyance yet adds class to keep it fabulously feminine. Asked what describes her sense of dressing and ambition she confesses, “My creativity is madness.” Adding flavor to the conversation she adds, “I can go so wild.” Existentialism runs as a chief theme through her soul and is predominant in her collection. Using cutting edge techniques and apparel, you can spot a Nouri piece instantly. Her devotion to Vogue and unusual use of “guns and poodles” with cuffs follow a theme of nationalism. She admits to a special relationship in her life. Not her husband this time. “Me and Christian Louboutin shoes have a very special relationship.” Nour is inspired by what she sees at New York fashion week to cigars her father smokes. She is in totality an effervescence of splendor.

NOA Couture by Nawaf Saud

Featured in Oasis Magazine's Breast Cancer Issue, Nawaf Saud is the creative fashion force behind the NOA COUTURE label. A native of Saudi Arabia, he graduated from the prestigiuos Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London in 2005 and launched NOA Couture that same year.

Oasis interviews NOA: What happens when a Bedouin meets a cowboy? When a sea creature meets the night stars? Nawaf is inspired by every day life and its events, from modern sky-scrappers and mud-houses, to facial expressions and the movements of the conductor. Nawaf’s designs are also very much influenced by his mother and her sense of style as she managed to marry couture with traditional garments. His collections are characterized by their layered structures and seductive lines, which create one-of-a kind glamorous pieces. “ I design my clothes for people who know what they want in life and have a creative vision in lifestyle.”

What design elements do you consider to be your signature? Mix and match, or Mix and don’t match, expressive, powerful, along with some unique fabrics mixed with ornamented elements of embroidery and crystals. Mainly evoking the old styles of clothing with a modern new look. I use the Shalky fabrics, which are from the Bedouin tradition. I then add my own twist to these traditional concepts to create a new modern, sophisticated, and glamorous look.

What is celebration to you? When the sun rises every day and throws at me threads of inspiration, when the moon glows stronger and shimmers on me, when East meets West… it’s the pure joy of life without conditions.

What do you celebrate in your collections? Is it a celebration of who you are?
Very much so, indeed everything that I am and the feelings I go through manifests in my collections. Why do you think it’s important to raise awareness to breast cancer and other causes around the world? I generally hope the message reaches every woman to be aware of this silent threat to her and her family and loved ones. I hope the awareness campaign gets stronger and stronger every day, and that it reaches all over the globe to protect every mother and woman. The most important point is to be able to pass the idea to every woman that she should test herself by herself on a regular basis. If this idea spreads, every woman can protect herself ahead of time, which is the main aspect to fight cancer. It is also important for young girls to be aware and to test themselves early on.

What’s next for your line? I see Noa Couture as Saudi Arabia’s leading fashion brand which influences the world of fashion with its power to explore, shelter and modernize Saudi cultural heritage.

This talented designer with a flair for the dramatic, has a strong personal style which has been praised and warmly received. He is anticipated to be one of the most influential fashion designers in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf.

Fyunka by Alaa Balkhy
Excerpt from feature on Fyunka in Oasis Magazine: Fyunka – meaning bow in Arabic, is a line of highly addictive fashion accessories by Jeddah-native Alaa Balkhy. The twenty-something illustrator, designer and blogger always knew she wanted to have her own line, “ I guess it’s a cliché, but I always wanted to create something with both fashion and graphic design. The whole process of Fyunka started from a thought after observing women and their love for things that they cannot easily attain. This would later form the basis for the design series “بابا ابغى بيركن” “Dad, I want a Birkin”. It all started from a design I posted on my blog! After that, my design got published in two other blogs and from there it went viral. I thought of creating other designs, meanwhile everyone around me suggested I start printing my designs on T-shirts but I really wanted to print it on something that people would carry around everywhere.”
