The
Farjam Collection @ DIFC is proud to collaborate with the United Nations World
Food Programme (WFP) to start off their 2013 program. Presenting works by 24
emerging and established Iranian artists selected by the WFP office in Iran,
the show includes paintings, calligraphy, sculptures and photography that will
be on display for two months followed by an auction with all proceeds donated
to WFP’s operations to assist refugees in Iran.
“It
is a distressing truth that as we enter the year 2013 tens of millions of people
across the world continue to suffer from that most basic and cruel of human
afflictions: hunger. I am therefore grateful to be able to collaborate with WFP
for this important exhibition,” says Farhad Farjam, Founder of The Farjam
Collection. “Art has always sought to confront us with the painful realities of our existence, to
challenge us and inspire our sense of compassion. It is thus fitting that this
project will both celebrate the vibrancy of contemporary Iranian art and shed a
light on WFP’s crucial work.”
This exhibition is organized in partnership with WFP offices in Iran and the UAE and with support from Contemporary Practices Art Journal. The exhibition will feature works of contemporary artists including pioneer and world-acclaimed Iranian artist Ahmad Esfandiari, renowned painter and children's book illustrator Parviz Kalantari and multimedia artist Faride Lashayi.
Negar Gerami, Country Director of WFP Iran, says: "WFP welcomes new and innovative partnerships with the private sector. These partnerships align the organization's core strengths as the largest humanitarian agency with the expertise and strategic objectives of some of the world's most outstanding corporate citizens. We have excellent support within the Iranian artist community and seize every opportunity to engage the public in our life-saving mission."
