Rhizoma: Generation in Waiting > This Year's Edge of Arabia exhibition at the #Venice Biennale @EdgeOfArabia #OasisMediaPartner

As a follow up to their 2011 Pan-Arab exhibition of contemporary art The Future of a Promise, Edge of Arabia, withsupport from Abdul Latif Jameel Community Initiatives, areproud to return to the Biennale di Venezia with an exhibitiontitled RHIZOMA (Generation in Waiting).

Curated by London-based art critic and independent curator, Sara Raza, and Saudi-based poet, curator and artist, Ashraf Fayadh, RHIZOMA draws its inspiration from ayounger generation of Saudi artists, and embraces visual artalongside technology, science and natural philosophy.

Curator Sara Raza explains: “Curatorially the exhibition’s title and premise re-appropriates the concept of a rhizome, the underground stem of a plant that shoots roots laterally as opposed to upwards, as a metaphor for the current generation of Saudi Arabia’s thriving art scene. These artists in common with a rhizome are part of a subterranean network, independent and distinctive in their styles and approach, technologically astute, experimental and with the ability to break away from the main stream to form new roots."

Ashraf Fayadh elaborates: “We aim to provide a clear vision of the radical transformation in Saudi art, which is now more affiliated with its roots, to the real culture represented by the awareness of the different living conditions in Saudi Arabia. This awareness is creating a strong message.”
